May 2008 - May Memories

May was one of those months where we were so busy...it's hard to remember what we did. A little bit of this…a little bit of that.

May 1st was a
beautiful day. Oweghn was with Grams so Sean, Kelan and I headed down to the Pearl District for First Thursday. Kelan loved walking around. We had a lovely dinner outside at Fenouil, which was coincidentally where Sean and I went for a romantic dinner when I was newly pregnant with Kelan. Fortunately this time there was no morning sickness to complicate the ordering (and eating) process. It was fun to go again and reminisce about being pregnant with Kelan.

Our next big excitement in May was Oweghn's 5th birthday. We celebrated at The International School for Oweghn's class on the Thursday before his birthday with cupcakes and cookies. On Saturday, the day before his birthday, we attended the Classic Car show at Portland Transmission Warehouse. 5 years before, on that very day, my water broke and Sean and I left the car show to head to the hospital to have Oweghn. It brings tears to my eyes to think of how fast the time is going and will continue to go. Ah, memories!

The next day, Mother's day, was Oweghn's actual
birthday. After a nice Mother's day breakfast, prepared by Sean (with a little help from the boys) we focused the rest of the day on celebrating Oweghn's 5th birthday with some quality family time and Oweghn's gift of his first "real" legos. We spent most of the day playing with his new set. Grandma and Grandpa (farm) and Uncle Brian and Cousin Austin joined us at TGI Fridays for Oweghn's birthday dinner. After dinner, we rendezvoused at our place where Grams joined the rest of us for Ice Cream cake and gift opening. It was a great day! Oweghn gave it "2 thumbs up!"

Later that week, on an unseasonable warm Thursday after picking Oweghn up from school,
we went down to the waterfront and hung out with some friends from school. Oweghn enjoyed throwing rocks in the river and Kelan enjoyed trying to make his way down to his big brother. We then headed to the Salmon Street fountain where there were lots of kids, and just as many News cameras hanging out there. We ended the night with dinner at McCormick’s on the waterfront.

On Saturday the 17th…we had Oweghn’s Dinosaur themed birthday party. He had lots of friends to help him celebrate. Because the weather was so warm that weekend, we got out the boys’ new slide pool. The kids played ALL day long and had a blast. It was a great time and a once again, a very fun backyard birthday party.

To add even more to our schedule, at the last minute we bought tickets to fly to Washington D.C. over memorial day weekend to visit Uncle Brett, Aunt Erin and new Baby Claire. We had a great visit. It was so much fun. They have such a great neighborhood. We went for walks to Alexandria, the park, Starbucks and to the Farmer’s market. We also made time for some of the tourist attractions we didn't see last time we were there. Sean and Oweghn went to two baseball games (Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles) and got to check 2 more ball parks off their list in their continuing quest to attend all the major league ball parks by the time Oweghn is 18. They’ve now hit 8 ball parks. Go team!

We finished off the month with some much needed quiet time at home. We planted an herb garden and caught up on some yard work. Oweghn and I planted a small vegetable garden. Keeping the garden up will be a fun summer activity. No matter how busy we are, we always seem to make time for quality family time at home. A reminder of what really matters...the time we spend together makes life worthwhile. Once again, we're Making Memories!
